William Simpson was a Scottish artist and war-illustrator of the nineteenth century, a leading figure in press reportage art. Trained as a lithographer, he developed precise topography, atmospheric watercolours and accomplished chromolithography. His Crimean views collected in "The Seat of War in the East" and his plates from the Prince of Wales tour of India published in "The Prince of Wales in India" became benchmarks.
