Jean-Baptiste Santerre was a French painter active at the end of the Grand Siècle and during the Regency. Standing between late Classicism and early Rococo, he became known for refined portraits, intimate candlelit interiors, and female nudes with religious or mythological overtones, as in his celebrated “Susanna at her Bath”.
